The World of Men's Underwear

Men's Underwear
Underwear is an essential part of a man's daily wear for this and their selection should be done carefully both in terms of the style of the underwear and the quality it is made of. In this text, we will delve into the world of men's underwear, looking at the bottoms of Boxers, Briefs and Socks as well as the tops that concern Undershirts. In addition, we will analyze the fabrics used to make the underwear of each category and the advantages that each material has.
Boxer shorts
Men's boxers combine both a comfortable fit and coverage in the buttock area. The division is made into two categories the short boxers (Trunk) that cover the buttocks and a very small part of the thigh and the long boxers (Boxer Briefs) that cover 1/3 or many times and ½ of the thigh.
- Trunk
The short boxers or Trunks have a short leg that covers a very small part at the beginning of the thigh, provide excellent support and comfort and are made of cotton, modal, viscose, lyocell and synthetic materials.
- Boxer Brief
Long boxers have longer legs, providing more coverage and comfort. The longer legs they have make them suitable for various activities as they prevent the contact of the pants with the body and possible skin irritation is avoided. The construction materials used for construction are cotton, modal, lyocell, viscose and various synthetic materials.
Short ones are the most common and represent 95% of the male population who prefer boxers leaving only 5% for long ones.
Briefs
Briefs are a classic underwear style characterized by a comfortable fit and minimal leg coverage. A key advantage they have compared to boxers is that, particularly in the summer months, the greater coverage offered by boxers can provide extra heat, while briefs, leaving these areas uncovered, are a cooler option. Briefs were once the most popular choice among men, but boxers have now taken over. The fabric used for briefs is usually cotton, modal, lyocell, viscose and synthetic.
Socks
Socks are an undergarment that comes into direct contact with the feet and provides the necessary protection from hard parts of the shoes. At the same time, it provides sweat absorption for this and the construction materials are either bamboo, cotton or silk. There are 4 basic types of socks, which are detailed below:
- Sumba
Suba socks or otherwise invisible are socks that do not exceed the height of the ankle and are not visible when someone is wearing shoes. Sometimes they cover only the toes while others reach up to the toe while having silicone or rubber on the heel to keep the sock from coming off the foot. They are made of cotton and blends of synthetic materials and rubber.
- Ankle
Ankle length socks reach either above or below the ankle bone and are commonly used for more casual and athletic wear. They are made from materials such as cotton and bamboo.
- Calf
The socks reach up to and below the calf and offer more coverage than ankle length socks. The material they are made of and the thickness of the threads used to make them determine whether the sock is suitable for casual or formal wear. Thin yarns, with high percentages of cotton, bamboo or silk are suitable for formal occasions and for the summer months, while the richer yarns that give thickness to the sock are suitable for more casual and winter months and are usually made of cotton and bamboo in combination with synthetic. Woolen socks can be worn either casually or formally, but they are a product that is best suited for winter as they provide enough warmth.
- Trocar
Trocar stockings are higher than those that reach the calf and usually cover it while sometimes reaching the knee. The construction materials are usually cotton mixed with rubber or synthetic materials.
Undershirts
Undershirts serve as an extra layer under shirts or other clothing. They offer a number of benefits, including moisture wicking and temperature retaining properties. Undershirts are divided into two categories, tank tops and short sleeves:
- Tank tops
Tank tops or tank tops are designed to provide coverage in both the chest and waist area. They are made from lightweight fabrics such as cotton and modal that allow the body to breathe. The absence of sleeves ensures greater comfort, while especially in the summer months when shirt fabrics become thinner and short-sleeved blouses are an option for those who do not want the tank top to be noticeable.
- Short sleeve T-shirts
Short sleeve tank tops offer the same benefits as sleeveless tops, but with the addition of sleeves that provide coverage for the arms. The construction materials are also not significantly different from those of the sleeveless ones.
Fabrics – Advantages
- Cotton: Cotton is the basic material in the manufacture of underwear, and not without reason. It has a very soft texture, absorbency and allows the skin to breathe so it does not retain odors. Another cotton underwear keeps its shape and does not overflow while also being easy to clean.
Cotton can be used to produce durable fabrics (poplin) and fabrics that have the natural elasticity of cotton. Also, the use of elastic between the threads helps to restore the fabric during use and when applied to the body. In conclusion, cotton is a very good choice when choosing underwear
- Modal, Lyocell and Viscose: All three of these materials are made from natural materials and are not a synthetic material as many people often think because of their exotic name.
Modal: Produced from beech wood
Lyocell: Produced from eucalyptus wood
Viscose: Produced from plant cellulose
All three of these materials have the properties of cotton while also maintaining the dyeing of the thread and possessing softness like silk. These materials, as they are more difficult to produce compared to cotton and due to their characteristics, are classified as premium raw materials, with the result that these underwear are more expensive than cotton ones.
- Synthetic Materials: They are those materials made from synthetic polymers or small molecules and are usually polyester, polyamide and nylon. These materials lack absorbency and the skin's breathability is much less. Nevertheless, underwear made from synthetic materials have a solid dye, so they never lose their original color, the color emits more shine compared to cotton, so the visual effect looks better, they keep 100% of their shape and do not overflow while the property of not absorbing moisture seems to please some male audience who have intense activity or exercise in their day and do not tolerate the feeling of moisture in underwear. Still synthetic materials are used as a secondary material in a mixture of a cotton composition.
- Bamboo: Bamboo is used in the manufacture of socks, boxers and briefs. It has softness like silk, absorbs moisture, has natural antibacterial and bacteriostatic properties while neutralizing odors and has natural elasticity.
Conclusion
If we could categorize underwear, it would be boxers, briefs, tank tops and socks. Each category has different types made from a variety of materials with different properties to meet different preferences and needs. Understanding fabrics and their properties helps in choosing the right underwear based on comfort, style, performance and behavior of the fabric on the skin. Finally, whether it's the allure of boxers, the timeless comfort of briefs, the functional benefits of tank tops or the versatility of socks, choosing underwear is a subjective decision and only you can choose the ones that suit you.
